GROWING MEDIA FOR HYDROPONICS FARMING

Image
What is Hydroponics Hydroponics is science of growing plant without use of soil but with use of inert material such as gravel, sand, peat, vermiculite, pumice or sawdust to which is added to nutrient solution containing all essential elements needed by the plant for growth and development.    What are the growing media that can be used in hydroponics for the growth of plants: The media that can be used to nature the growth of plant in case of hydroponics are mainly used for two purpose on: On the basis to support the roots of the plants  On basis of proper supply of water / oxygen/Nutrient solution With the accessibility of so many varieties of grow media, it is pretty difficult to pick out the best one. Here Some media are listed that are the major Types of Hydroponic used Media: Coconut Coir Coco Peat or ultra-peat, Coconut coir is highly organic, highly inert and have great water holding capacity. Being the most efficient growi...

POLYHOUSE FARMING IN INDIA: INVESTMENT AND RETURNS

Image
Indian population is about 1,366,417,754 in 2019 at mid-year of 2019 according to UN data. Which makes India world's second most populous country next to china. The population increasing rate of India is about 1.13%, which leads India to 103rd position among 119 countries on the Global Hunger Index. In order to ensure the food security for the world’s 5th population, we need to adopt the polyhouse farming which increase the productivity of an area up to 4-5 time. OPEN FIELD CULTIVATION VS POLYHOUSE CULTIVATION Crops Open Field Cultivation Polyhouse Cultivation Tomato 2-3 kg/Plant 8-10 kg/Plant Capsicum 1-1.5 kg/Plant (Green) 5 kg/Plant (colour) 6 kg/Plant (Green) Cucumber 1 kg/Plant (Desi variety) Seedless not applicable 3-5 kg/Plant (Seedless variety) What is Polyhouse? A polyhouse is an enclosed structure covered with polyfilm. Structure can be made of Bamboo, Teak Wood or ...

Mist Chamber and Its components

What is mist Chamber? Enclosed structure in which artificially mist is generated for the propagation of Plants or seedlings. In Mist Chamber, Relative humidity is maintained at high level (95 %) with the help of mister’s, which spray water under high pressure. Size of mist partials lies between 50 to 100 ยต m. High relative humidity facilitate better root initiation and cooling effect prevents the cutting from drying out.   Advantages of mist chamber          This method results in faster rooting of the cuttings.          Create optimum Microclimate for better root initiation and development.          Higher success rate found in propagation of hard wood cuttings. Disadvantages of mist chamber Hardening of rooted cuttings is more difficult and requires careful attention. Selection of right medium is very important. Under mist conditions oxygen deficiency can create problem....
